Tourists from in and outside of the country often go and visit Tokyo Tower which is very famous.

It has been bent due to the big earthquake on March 11^th.

And now you see the video which is about the engineers are on the top of it and fixing it.

新幹線 Shinkansen Bullet Train

みなさん、こんにちは！


When you are traveling in Japan, trains are very convenient.
I will write about the New Shinkansen bullet train today.
The new Tohoku-Shinkansen E series “Hayabusa” starts to run on 5th, March.
Its advertising blurb is “21st century dream super-fast train”,
Starting with the highest speed 300km/hour and then it will run with 320km/hour from 2013 spring which is the fastest in Japan.
The faster trains become, the noises become louder.
How to turn the noise down is the key to speed-up which is a combat against noise.
Its chassis are thoroughly covered with absorption of sound panels and the first car has the longest 15m nose.
Everything is for to turn the wind sound down.

The Japan National Tourism Organization announced on 26th Jan the number of foreign tourists (estimated figure) which was 8.6M people, was 26.8% highter than the previous year
The demand of travel abroad was expanded due to economic recovery, advertising effects of visit Japan campaign were factors of the increase of the number of foreign visitors and also the Haneda Airport started regular international flight services in the end of last October had also benefit.

Mt. Fuji is very popular not only for Japanese but also for people form overseas.
Some of my school’s students climb Mt. Fuji every year.
The number is increasing from about 200,000 (5 years ago) to 300,000 (last year).
From July 1st to Aug 31st which its mountain huts are open is the top season, there are about 5,000people are climbing every day during the two months.
Actually I have never climbed Mt. Fuji.
Then they ask me I am Japanese.
And the answer is I am Japanese for sure.

It gets crowded everywhere during “Golden Week”.
Expressways become long parking lots and you need to queue because there are many people in tourist spots.
Even the tour fees for both domestic and overseas gets double or triple, still lots of people are traveling, so Narita Airport is also busy.

ゴールデンウィークはどこへ行っても混んでいます。
高速道路は長い駐車場のようになるし、観光地もたくさん人がいますから、並ばなければならないこともよくあります。

Golden Week

The Golden Week is a collection of four national holidays within seven days. In combination with well placed weekends, the Golden Week becomes one of Japan's three busiest holiday seasons, besides New Year and the Obon week.
Trains, airports and sightseeing spots get very crowded during Golden Week, and accommodation in tourist areas can get booked out well in advance.

The national holidays making up the Golden Week are:

April 29 ：　Showa Day (Showa no hi)
April 29 is the birthday of former Emperor Showa, who died in the year 1989. Until 2006, Greenery Day (see May 4) used to be celebrated on this day.

May 3 ：　Constitution Day (Kenpo kinenbi)
On this day in 1947, the new post war constitution was put into effect.

May 4 ：　Greenery Day (Midori no hi)
Until 2006, Greenery Day used to be celebrated on April 29, the birthday of former Emperor Showa. The day is dedicated to the environment and nature, because the emperor loved plants and nature. Before being declared Greenery Day, May 4 used to be a national holiday due to a law, which declares a day, that falls between two national holidays, a national holiday.

May 5 ：　Children's Day (Kodomo no hi)
The Boy's Festival (Tango no Sekku) is celebrated on this day. Families pray for the health and future success of their sons by hanging up carp streamers and displaying samurai dolls, both symbolizing strength, power and success in life. The Girl's Festival, by the way, is celebrated on March 3.

Golden Week 2010

In 2010, the Golden Week will consist of an isolated public holiday (April 29) and a 5-day weekend (May 1-5). Travel activity is anticipated to peak on May 1 with people leaving the large urban centers and on May 5 in the opposite direction. Heavy traffic can also be expected on April 29 and May 4.

Pandas will be back to Tokyo Ueno Zoo next year!
Shintaro Ishihara, the governor of Tokyo, announced that Panda couples lease contract has been signed for 10 years costs 9.5 M dollars per year, on January 12th.
“Kan-Kan” and “Ran-Ran” came to Japan first time in 1972, Panda had been a symbol of Ueno Zoo.
However, there has been no Pandas since “Rin-Rin” died in 2008 April, the number of visitors has been decreased.

Meiji Shrine, near Harajuku station on JR Yamanote line, is also a popular tourist spot for one from overseas.
It is a very beautiful and quiet greenish area.
The well in Meiji Shrine is broadcasted in last December as a “power spot”, there are many people come and visit it.
It is said that luck will improve to place its photo on a cell phone idle display.
It would be better to get there early because seems like you need to wait for 2-3 hours.

 JR山手線 原宿駅近くの明治神宮は海外からの観光客にも人気の場所。
緑が多く静かで、とてもきれいなところ。
この明治神宮の中にある井戸がパワースポットとして去年の12月ごろテレビで紹介されてから、たくさんの人が見に来ているそうです。
携帯電話で写真を取って、待ち受け画面にすると運気があがるそうです。
２～３時間並ばなければならないようですから、早く行った方がいいでしょう。

みなさん、こんにちは！

Tokyo Tower is one of the most famous tourist spots in Tokyo.
And actually it distribute TV and radio waves.
There are problems that Tokyo Tower is not high enough for terrestrial digital broadcasting in 2011.
Therefore, there is a new tower called “Tokyo Sky Tree” will be build in 2012 in Sumida ward.
Tokyo Tower is 333m, Tokyo Sky Tree is going to be 634m which is the highest tower in the world and it has an observatory on the 450m high.

映画 Hachiko: A Dog s Story

みなさん　こんにちは!!

東京渋谷にある｢ハチ公｣の銅像を知っていますか？
今では有名な待ち合わせの場所です。
｢ハチ公｣は1920年代に飼い主の仕事の帰りを渋谷駅で毎日待っていた犬です。
そして飼い主が亡くなってからも10年ぐらいずっと待っていた犬｢ハチ公｣
その｢ハチ公｣の話は日本でも映画化されましたが、リメイク版ハリウッド映画が来月から公開されます。
主演はリチャード・ギア。
７月７日に映画のセレモニーが渋谷駅前で行われ、リチャード・ギアが｢ハチ公｣の銅像と初対面しました。

Do you know “Hachiko” dog statue at Tokyo Shibuya station?
It is a very famous meeting spot now.
“Hachiko” was a dog that waited his master returned from his work at Shibuya station every day in 1920s.
And even “Hachiko” waited for about 10 years after his master died.
“Hachiko” story was made into a film in Japan and a Hollywood remake of it will be shown in next month.
Richard Gere stars in the film.
There was a ceremony of the film at Shibuya station on July 7th, Richard Gere meets “Hachiko” first time.

富士山　７月１日の山開きに登頂できず…残雪多く

　山梨県は２９日、残雪が多いため７月１日の富士山山開きには同県側から登頂できないと発表した。静岡県側も３年連続で登頂できないことが決まっており、山開きに登頂できないのは９７年以来１２年ぶりとなる。

You cannot climb to the top of Mt. Fuji on July 1st, the day of the opening day due to remaining snow.
Yamanashi prefecture announced on 29th, it is not be able to climb Mt. Fuji from Yamanashi prefecture side on July 1st due to heavy remaining snow.
Either form Shizuoka prefecture side, it has been already decided not to climb.
It has been 12 years you cannot climb on the summit on the opening day since 1997.
